About Düfa
Düfa is the paint and varnish brand of Meffert AG Farbwerke from Bad Kreuznach – a family business that began with a paint shop in 1947 and today produces at several European sites. In the trades the name stands for a complete range from primer coat via window and radiator paint to siloxane façade paint. We stock the part of the range that is most often needed in everyday painting and renovation: primers, barrier primers, water-based paints, wall and façade paints and floor coatings.
The primer coat decides whether the paint holds
Most paint damage does not arise in the topcoat but beneath it. Three things bleed through from below and destroy a freshly painted surface: wood constituents from oak, larch and pine, nicotine, water and grease stains on old interior walls and rust on iron and steel. For each of these three problems there is a dedicated primer coat – and none replaces the other.
Selection guide: which Düfa paint for which substrate?
The overview arranges the Düfa range we stock by substrate and task. The details in the last column come from the product data of the respective article.

Water-based paint or synthetic-resin paint – the difference only becomes visible later
Solvent-based synthetic-resin paints flow out very smoothly and have long been the standard on windows. But they have a property that only shows after months: they yellow, especially where no daylight gets – behind cupboards, on the inside of doors, in north-facing rooms. Water-based acrylic paints keep their white. For this they need block resistance, that is, the property of not sticking to the sealing surface when a window or door is closed.

Good to know
- Since 1947. Otto Meffert Sr. opened a paint shop in Bad Kreuznach's town centre that year; in 1985 Klaus and Dieter Meffert took over the management and, from 1991, aligned the company internationally.
- Based in Bad Kreuznach. Meffert AG Farbwerke is located at Sandweg 15 and also produces at sites in several European countries.
- Düfa is a brand, not the company. The Meffert group also includes further brands – among them the sealant manufacturer Pronova, whose headquarters were likewise moved to Bad Kreuznach.
- The D number organises the range. D112, D137, D230, D520 – the number designates the product within the wall and façade series and stays the same across pack sizes.
- Correx is the metal series. Bonding primer, metal protection paint and gutter paint carry this name and are designed for substrates that rust or do not accept paint at all.

Frequently asked questions about Düfa
Do I really need a primer coat?
On sound, clean and unproblematic substrates a universal primer such as the Multigrund is often enough. As soon as something can bleed through from below, however – tannins from oak and larch, nicotine, old water marks or rust –, a barrier primer made for exactly that is needed. A topcoat alone merely postpones the problem. Which substrates a product covers is stated in the manufacturer's technical data sheet.
Why does my white paint yellow?
Because it is a solvent-based synthetic-resin paint. Its binder darkens over time, more strongly in the dark than in the light – which is why the inside of doors, surfaces behind cupboards and north-facing rooms show it first. Water-based acrylic paints do not have this effect. For white interior surfaces a water-based paint is therefore the more durable choice, for example the Premium window/door paint.
What does “block-resistant” mean?
That two painted surfaces do not stick together when pressed against each other – for example window sash and frame or door and lining. Water-based paints need a special formulation for this, otherwise the paint layer tears off at the first opening. The 3in1 window paint is expressly specified as block-resistant. Regardless of that, the rule is: close windows and doors only when the paint has dried through completely, not already when it feels touch-dry.
Which paint goes on a façade?
On mineral substrates and sound old coatings a siloxane-reinforced façade paint such as the D137 is suitable: it repels driving rain and still lets the wall release moisture. The preliminary check is important – chalking, sanding or loose old coatings must be removed or consolidated, otherwise the new paint comes off with the old. For algae and mould infestation there is a supplementary formulation with the paint additive D111.
