Fire protection from baustoff-held.de: perfect sealing for professionals
Sealing a building has mattered for as long as people have built them. From shipbuilding in antiquity to modern construction, sealants are indispensable today. A day without them? Unthinkable. Dry living spaces, hygienic bathroom joints and watertight roofs are marks of quality in any property. At baustoff-held.de we rely on brand quality that does what it promises. Explore our range from market leaders such as OTTO-Chemie and find the right chemistry for every application.
Modern answers to extreme exposure
Outdoors, sealants face extreme weather every day: driving rain, UV radiation, frost and heat. Our modern hybrid and MS polymer sealants combine the advantages of silicone and polyurethane and offer exceptional adhesion while staying elastic. Natural stone, glass or metal - we stock speciality sealants for every substrate.
Bathroom & kitchen: hygiene meets durability
In wet rooms, sealants are under particular pressure. Soap residue, standing water and cleaning agents must not make the joint porous. Our sanitary silicones carry a fungicide to resist mould. For kitchens we offer ISEGA-tested products that may safely come into contact with food - ideal for bakeries, canteens or the worktop at home.
Low-emission products and indoor air
Indoor air quality matters more and more. Many of our products carry the EMICODE® label (EC1 Plus). These solvent-free, low-emission sealants keep the air healthy in living rooms and bedrooms.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
How long does silicone take to cure?
As a rule silicone cures about 2 to 3 mm per 24 hours, depending on humidity and temperature.
Can silicone be painted over?
No, conventional silicone cannot be painted over. Use acrylic or hybrid sealants for that.
Why is the joint in my bathroom going black?
That is usually mould, caused by standing water and soap residue. Use a sanitary silicone with a fungicide.
What is the difference between silicone and acrylic?
Silicone stays permanently elastic and sheds water; acrylic is plasto-elastic and can be painted over.
When do I need a primer?
On strongly absorbent or very smooth substrates, a primer improves the adhesion of the sealant considerably.
How do I avoid staining on natural stone?
Use natural stone silicone only, because standard silicone can cause oily marks along the joint edge.
What does EMICODE® EC1 Plus mean?
It is a certification for particularly low-emission building products that keep the indoor climate healthy.
How should sealants be stored?
Cool, dry and frost-free. An opened cartridge should be closed firmly with its cap.
What is the shelf life of sealants?
Usually 12 months unopened. The best-before date is printed on the cartridge.
What is the best way to remove old silicone?
Mechanically with a joint scraper, then chemically with a silicone remover for the remains.
