Description
Düfa D231 in the shade sandstone beige is a plinth paint based on synthetic resin dispersion for weather-resistant coatings on heavily stressed interior and exterior surfaces. It is scrub-resistant, high-covering and matt and is regarded as solvent-free according to VdL-RL 01. The 5 litre bucket is tailored to façade plinths, hallways and stairwells, for painters as well as DIY enthusiasts.

Limits & notes
The D231 is a coating, not a waterproofing. Against pressurised water, permanently wet cellar walls or rising damp only a cellar waterproofing or sealing slurry helps. Sanding or chalking substrates must be primed beforehand. For wooden and metal components at the plinth a suitable varnish is the right choice.
Labelling: The mixture is not classified as hazardous under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008; no signal word applies. The following applies: EUH208 Contains 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one. May produce an allergic reaction. EUH211 Warning! Hazardous respirable droplets may be formed when sprayed. Do not breathe spray or mist. Safety data sheet available from the manufacturer.
Application & tips
Prepare the substrate firm, dry, clean and sound; clean off soiling mechanically or with pressurised water up to 60 °C and 60 bar, prime absorbent surfaces with düfa D 314 Deep Primer LF or D 316 Deep Primer plus. Stir the paint well and apply in two coats: intermediate coat diluted with up to 10 % water, final coat undiluted. More water costs hiding power and durability. Apply with brush, roller or airless (nozzle 0.026 to 0.031 inch, 160 bar, 50 degree spray angle); for spraying work the manufacturer recommends safety goggles, combination filter A2/P2 and good ventilation. Can be overpainted after approx. 4 hours, through-dry after approx. 3 days at 20 °C and 65 % relative humidity. Clean tools and fresh splashes immediately with water. Store dry, cool and frost-free, close opened containers tightly.
Frequently asked questions
How much area does a 5 l bucket cover?
At approx. 200 ml/m² per coat and two coats, 5 litres are enough for around 12 m² of smooth substrate. On rough plaster the consumption is higher.
Can I also use the plinth paint indoors?
Yes. The manufacturer expressly names heavily used interior surfaces such as hallways; with under 1 g/l VOC and LF per VdL-RL 01 it is suitable for this.
Do I have to prime first?
Not on firm, low-absorbency old coats. Pre-treat sanding or highly absorbent substrates with düfa D 314 Deep Primer LF or D 316 Deep Primer plus.
Does the paint help against rising damp in the plinth?
No. D231 is a weather-resistant coating, not a waterproofing. In case of moisture damage the cause must be sealed first.
