About Teroson
Teroson is Henkel's construction and industrial brand for sealants and adhesives. With us it stands almost entirely for one topic: the professional window connection according to RAL installation. Connection films, the matching film adhesive, the low-emission spray primer, butyl sealing tape for overlaps as well as a painter's acrylic and an MS polymer sealant together make up the complete build-up – from the shell connection to the visible joint.
The sd value tells you how tight a film really is
“Tighter on the inside than on the outside” is the basic rule of every connection joint. This tightness is measured in the sd value: the thickness of a still air layer in metres that offers the same resistance to the passage of vapour as the film. A film with sd = 50 m therefore slows water vapour as much as 50 metres of still air; one with sd = 1 m lets it pass largely unhindered.
On the outside, Teroson FO 1 Foil Tack works: fully self-adhesive, vapour-open and yet driving-rain-proof, can be plastered over and, according to the product data, can also be used in external thermal insulation composite systems. Where the film is not self-adhesive or the substrate requires it, the sealing film adhesive AD SP is added – water-based and paint-compatible.
Selection guide: which Teroson product for which level?
The overview arranges the Teroson range we stock by the position in the connection. The details in the last column come from the product data of the respective article.
| Product | Base | Purpose | Special feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Terofol combi SD1/50 | Connection film | inner and outer level from one roll | Self-adhesive · two shades · 180 mm × 30 m |
| Teroson FO 1 Foil Tack | Connection film | outer building-body connection | Vapour-open, driving-rain-proof, can be plastered over · 60 m |
| Teroson AD SP | Special polymer, water-based | bonding sealing film systems that can be plastered over | Paint-compatible · 600 ml foil bag |
| Teroson AD Adhesive Spray | Contact adhesive | fixing self-adhesive film systems | Strengthens weakly load-bearing substrates · also on damp ground |
| Teroson PR Primer M+S | water-based | Primer coat on plaster and masonry | EMICODE EC1 Plus · without solvents and isocyanates |
| Teroson RB 81 butyl tape | Butyl rubber | Overlaps and underlay membranes | Double-sided adhesive · B2 to DIN 4102 · up to 80 °C |
| Teroson SE 139 painter's acrylic | Polyacrylate | paintable connection joints | DIN EN 15651-1 · up to 25 % total deformation |
| Teroson SE 2000 MF | MS polymer | bonding and sealing on difficult substrates | Bonds to EPDM and rubber profiles · even in light frost |
What 25 per cent total deformation means in practice
On sealants the label carries a percentage – the permissible total deformation. It is not an advertising claim but a design quantity: it says by what percentage of the installed joint width the joint may move without the sealant tearing. Teroson SE 139 is specified at 25 per cent.
What tradespeople use Teroson for
- Forming window connections airtight on the inside
- Closing window connections on the outside driving-rain-proof and vapour-open
- Integrating connection films into the plaster build-up so they can be plastered over
- Connecting films in external thermal insulation composite systems
- Strengthening and priming substrates before bonding
- Connecting underlay membranes and overlaps airtight
- Grouting connection joints so they can be painted over
- Bonding and sealing on EPDM and rubber profiles
- Continuing to work in light frost and on damp ground
- Working with low emissions in occupied rooms
Teroson product families
Good to know
- Teroson belongs to Henkel. The Düsseldorf group, by its own account, celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2026; its adhesive brands also include Pattex, Ponal and Tangit.
- Terofol is the film line. Products with this name belong to the Teroson range for the building-body connection, even if the roll does not carry the brand name at the front.
- EMICODE EC1 Plus is the strictest level of the GEV emission label for installation and construction products. The spray primer PR M+S carries it – an argument when working in occupied rooms or under building certification.
- Butyl stays soft. Butyl rubber does not cure but stays permanently plastic. That makes the RB 81 usable for overlaps – but also final: once bonded, it cannot be separated cleanly.
- Acrylic is sensitive to frost. The product data expressly designate SE 139 as at risk from frost. In winter, cartridges do not belong in the van overnight.

Frequently asked questions about Teroson
Which side of the film belongs on the inside?
The one with the higher sd value – it keeps the humid room air out of the joint. The vapour-open side with the low sd value belongs on the outside, so that moisture that gets in anyway can dry out again. With Terofol combi SD1/50, both areas are distinguished by colour according to the product data, so that the assignment is not mixed up on the building site. Swapped levels lead to moisture collecting in the joint instead of drying out.
Do I need a primer under the connection film?
On smooth, firm substrates often not; on sanding plaster, porous masonry or dusty concrete, however, yes – otherwise the film sticks to a layer that does not itself hold. According to the product data, the spray primer PR M+S is water-based, can be applied just above zero degrees and can also be used on damp ground. The substrate preparation in the technical data sheet of the respective film system is binding.
Acrylic or MS polymer in the connection joint?
Acrylic such as SE 139 can be painted over and is therefore right where the joint is to disappear in the paint; according to the product data it accommodates up to 25 per cent total deformation. SE 2000 MF, as an MS polymer, adheres to considerably more substrates – including EPDM and rubber profiles –, can still be processed in light frost and bonds at the same time. Where both are required, the question of whether the joint will later be painted decides.
What is the difference between the AD SP and AD Spray adhesives?
AD SP is a water-based sealing film adhesive in a foil bag, applied as a bead with the cartridge gun and intended for systems that can be plastered over. AD Adhesive Spray is a contact adhesive from the spray can that works over the surface, strengthens weakly load-bearing substrates and, according to the product data, can even be used on damp ground. The bead is the rule in the connection, the spray the solution for surfaces and difficult substrates.
