About Saint-Gobain Weber
Saint-Gobain Weber is a manufacturer of construction products for waterproofing, tiling, floors and façades. The product names follow a fixed scheme: after the prefix weber. comes the product family – prim for primers, tec for waterproofing and building protection, xerm for tiling, floor for the floor. We stock the part of the range that is needed for waterproofing and coating: reactive waterproofing for components in contact with the ground, composite waterproofing with tile adhesive in one product, liquid vapour barrier and epoxy resin floor coating.
The dot in the name organises the whole range
Once you know what the four syllables stand for, you can find your way around the Weber range without a catalogue. The families correspond to the layers on the building – from preparing the substrate to the finished usable surface.
This order has a practical benefit beyond searching: products of one family are matched to one another. Primer, waterproofing and adhesive from the same system are compatible, and the drying and waiting times fit together. Anyone who lays layers from different manufacturers on top of one another has to check compatibility themselves – in case of doubt it is stated in neither of the data sheets.
Selection guide: which weber product for which layer?
The overview arranges the Weber range we stock by the layer on the building. The details in the last column come from the product data of the respective article.
| Product | Family | Purpose | Special feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| weber.tec Superflex D24 | tec | waterproofing components in contact with the ground | Bridges cracks from 2 mm · tested as a polymer-modified thick bituminous coating |
| weber.xerm 844 | xerm | Bonding tiles and waterproofing in composite | DIN EN 12004 as C1 E, deformability S2 · one operation |
| weber.prim 805 | prim | Blocking water vapour, also on difficult shapes | High diffusion resistance · solvent-free · 6 l canister |
| weber.floor 4740 | floor | Industrial, workshop and garage floor | OS-8 tested · solvent-free · many RAL shades |
Composite waterproofing: the layer you never see again
In showers, bathrooms and everywhere that water can arrive behind the tile, a composite waterproofing belongs between substrate and tile adhesive – often abbreviated AIV. It is invisible after tiling, and precisely for that reason it is occasionally left out. The damage then shows years later on the back of the wall.
What tradespeople use Saint-Gobain Weber for
- Waterproofing basement walls and components in contact with the ground
- Bridging cracks in the substrate without the layer tearing
- Building up on existing bitumen layers afterwards
- Waterproofing bathrooms and showers in composite
- Laying tiles on wall and floor under high water exposure
- Blocking water vapour before the floor build-up
- Coating workshop and garage floors liquid-tight
- Broadcasting floors for slip resistance or leaving them smooth
- Laying out floor surfaces in a RAL shade
Saint-Gobain Weber product families
Good to know
- The prefix is the order. weber.prim, weber.tec, weber.xerm, weber.floor – each family covers one layer on the building. The number behind it designates the individual product.
- OS-8 is a surface protection system class from the rules for concrete repair. It describes a dense, mechanically loadable coating – the mention on weber.floor 4740 is therefore a performance specification, not a colour designation.
- Total solid means: without solvents and without water as thinner. The layer hardly shrinks as it cures, and nothing escapes into the room.
- C1 E and S2 according to DIN EN 12004. C1 stands for a cementitious adhesive of the basic class, E for extended open time, S2 for high deformability – the value that matters with moving substrates and large formats.
- Reactive waterproofing instead of bitumen sheet. According to the product data, Superflex D24 can also be applied afterwards onto existing bitumen layers – an argument in existing buildings, where the old waterproofing cannot be removed.
- Crack bridging from two millimetres. This specification decides whether a waterproofing can survive on a moving substrate. It describes how wide a crack in the substrate may become before the layer above tears open – a value that is considerably lower with rigid waterproofings.
- Pack sizes follow the area. 24 kg for the basement wall, 6 kg for the tiled area, 6 l for the primer, 10 kg for the floor: the pack sizes are tailored to typical coverage rates, not to round numbers.
Frequently asked questions about Saint-Gobain Weber
What do prim, tec, xerm and floor mean?
They are the product families. prim stands for primers and primer coats, tec for waterproofing and building protection, xerm for tiling, floor for the floor build-up. The number behind it designates the specific product and stays the same across pack sizes – when reordering it is the decisive information.
Do I really need waterproofing under tiles?
Everywhere that water can arrive behind the tile – showers, bathrooms, commercial wet rooms. Tile and grout are not waterproofing; water migrates via the grout into the substrate. With weber.xerm 844, bonding and waterproofing can, according to the product data, be done in one operation. Which method is prescribed in an individual case depends on the water stress class of the room.
When do I need a vapour barrier under the floor?
If moisture can rise from below into the build-up – for example with screed on ground without functioning waterproofing, or with residual moisture in the substrate. According to the product data, weber.prim 805 blocks water vapour even in a thin layer, is solvent-free and resistant to permanent wetness. Whether a vapour barrier is necessary and which diffusion resistance is required results from the component calculation.
What does an epoxy resin floor coating do?
It makes a concrete surface liquid-tight, chemical-resistant and easy to clean. According to the product data, weber.floor 4740 is OS-8 tested and can be left smooth or broadcast for slip resistance. Substrate preparation is decisive: the concrete must be sufficiently strong, dry and ground, otherwise the coating does not adhere permanently – here the preparatory work decides the result, not the material.
