Description
Sika Haftreiniger-1 is a solvent-based adhesion promoter on an isopropanol basis for cleaning and activating non-porous bonding surfaces before bonding or sealing. It is designed as a system product for the Sikaflex, SikaBond and SikaHyflex adhesives and sealants and improves their adhesion on smooth substrates. The 1 l tin is intended for joint fitters, metalworkers and ambitious DIY users.

Limits & notes
Do not use on porous substrates such as concrete, masonry or wood: if the product does not flash off completely there, it can impair the curing of the adhesive. For absorbent surfaces, a primer for porous substrates is the right choice. The adhesion cleaner leaves a thin whitish film and is therefore not suitable for cleaning visible surfaces. Material that has turned cloudy or milky should no longer be used, nor should it be used for tooling or removing fresh polyurethane sealants.
Hazard statements: Danger. Highly flammable liquid and vapour. Causes serious eye irritation. May cause drowsiness or dizziness. Safety data sheet available from the manufacturer.
Application & tips
The bonding surface must be clean, dust-free and free from loose particles; heavily soiled or greasy metals should be cleaned thoroughly beforehand. Soak a clean, lint-free paper wipe with adhesion cleaner, wipe the surface, turning the wipe several times and replacing soiled wipes so that the dirt is not spread around. Apply only directly to the bonding surface and mask off adjacent areas where necessary. The substrate temperature must be between +5 and +35 °C. Solvent-based and flammable: use only with good ventilation, away from sources of ignition; wear safety goggles and solvent-resistant gloves (nitrile). Store cool and dry at +5 to +25 °C; shelf life 12 months in the unopened original container. Close opened tins tightly.
Frequently asked questions
How long must the adhesion cleaner flash off?
At least 15 minutes; after that, bonding or sealing is possible for up to 6 hours – this applies at temperatures above 15 °C.
Can I use Sika Haftreiniger-1 on concrete or wood?
No, it is intended only for non-porous substrates. Absorbent surfaces need a primer for porous substrates.
How far does one litre go?
According to the product data sheet, for 9–18 m² of surface or 300–600 linear metres of joint at approx. 20 × 15 mm.
