Description
The BIWA Multifunction Tape 3C plus is a pre-compressed impregnated foam sealing tape made of flexible polyurethane foam for sealing and insulating window movement joints. Special zones with different bulk densities seal according to the principle “more airtight inside than outside”: on the room side airtight to DIN 18542 BG R, in the middle thermally and acoustically insulating, on the outside driving-rain-tight and vapour-open to DIN 18542 BG 1. The black, single-sided self-adhesive tape is intended for window builders and DIY enthusiasts who want to make the connection with a single tape.
Benefits at a glance
- A single tape instead of three: air seal, insulation and driving rain protection in one operation.
- Tested tightness: driving-rain-tight above 600 Pa to DIN 18542 BG 1, joint air permeability coefficient a below 0.1 m³/[h·m·(daPa)ⁿ].
- Protection against moisture damage: sd value below 0.5 m, the joint can dry out permanently to the outside.
- Quiet in the room: joint sound insulation 59 dB, thermal conductivity 0.046 W/(m·K).
- Fire protection: flame-retardant, building material class B1 to DIN 4102-1.
- No mix-ups: The inside is printed with “inside” and always points to the room side when installed.
Areas of application
- Connection joint between window frame and masonry in new build and refurbishment
- Front doors and patio doors with frame depths of 60 to 90 mm
- Joint widths of 4 to 30 mm, depending on tape dimension
Limits & notes
The sealing effect depends on the degree of compression: the joint width in the installed state must lie within the stated range of use of the tape dimension, component movements must be taken into account at the maximum joint width. The tape cannot compensate for standing water or permanent water wetting. Do not stick the tape around the frame in one piece. According to the manufacturer, paintability is generally given – check beforehand.
Application & tips
Choose the tape dimension according to window installation depth and joint width. Free the joint flanks of dust, grease, old sealant and mortar residues. Allow 1 to 2 cm extra per metre and cut off the over-compressed start and end piece of the roll. Remove the cover of the self-adhesive film, stick the tape first on the top edge of the clean, dry window frame, then work from bottom to top at the sides – compress slightly, do not stretch, and lay on both sides at least 2 mm behind the front edge of the joint. In cold conditions store the tape for 24 hours beforehand at about 20 °C; a hot-air gun in a sweeping motion speeds up expansion; in warm conditions the component must be inserted quickly. Store dry and in original packaging below 20 °C, shelf life 1 year.
Frequently asked questions
Which tape dimension do I need?
The first number is the tape width for the window installation depth (55 mm for 60 mm, 64 for 70, 74 for 80, 84 for 90 mm), the second is the joint range in mm.
Do I additionally need a window connection foil?
No, according to the manufacturer the tape seals airtight on the inside and driving-rain-tight on the outside.
Which side goes inside?
The side face printed with “inside” always points to the interior of the room.
How much tape do I need per window?
Frame perimeter plus 1 to 2 cm extra per metre. The rolls are 8, 6 or 4 m long depending on the joint range.
