Sealing Bathrooms & Showers
A bathroom is made watertight in two steps: surface waterproofing beneath the tiles (bonded waterproofing) and elastic connection joints in sanitary silicone. Only that combination reliably protects shower, bath and basin from moisture damage and mould.
How to do it
- Check the substrate: clean, dry, sound; prime absorbent surfaces.
- Waterproof wet areas with liquid membrane and sealing tape (corners, pipe penetrations, floor-to-wall junction).
- After tiling, seal all connection joints with mould-resistant sanitary silicone.
- Strike the joint off with smoothing agent - never smooth it dry.
