About Weiss Chemie

Weiss Chemie + Technik is a manufacturer from Haiger in Hesse that makes adhesives, sealants and cleaning products for window and element construction. From this range we stock the cleaning milk for plastic and aluminium windows – the agent for cleaning frames, where neither abrasive grit nor solvents belong on the surface.

Why scouring agents make plastic windows dull

A white plastic window is smooth, and its appearance depends on exactly that: a smooth surface reflects light in a directed way and looks clean. A scouring agent leaves thousands of fine scratches. Individually they are invisible, but they scatter the light in all directions – the frame then looks dull and grey, and dirt settles in the scratches, which comes out even harder the next time.

The damage is one-off and remains. Unlike dirt, a scratched surface cannot be cleaned back. That is why neither scouring milk nor pan scourers nor aggressive solvents belong on plastic and aluminium windows. According to the product data, the Weiss Chemie cleaning milk works with washing-active surfactants, is phosphate-free and without aggressive constituents – it dissolves the dirt instead of abrading it.

The sequence at the window

A window consists of three materials that each want different treatment: frame, seal and fitting. If everything is treated with the same agent and the same cloth, at least one of them suffers. The seal is the most sensitive part – it tolerates neither solvents nor grease but needs care to stay supple.

Frame, seal and fitting on the window Frame Cleaning milk Seal water only, care for it Fitting oil, do not clean
Three materials, three agents. The frame is cleaned with the cleaning milk and then wiped over with clear water. The seal does not tolerate the cleaning agent permanently – it is wiped with water and then treated with a suitable care product so that it stays elastic and does not freeze to the frame in winter. The fitting needs no cleaning agent but a drop of oil at the moving points. The care instructions of the window manufacturer remain binding.

Good to know

  • Based in Haiger. Weiss Chemie + Technik GmbH & Co. KG is located at Hansastraße 2 in 35708 Haiger and, besides cleaning products, runs adhesives and sealants for element construction.
  • Test first, then the whole façade. With coloured, foil-covered or textured profiles a test on a hidden spot is part of the job. Foils react differently from through-coloured material.
  • Do not work in the sun. On a heated frame the agent dries before it works – and leaves streaks that are hard to get rid of again.
  • Other surfaces, other agents. For stainless steel, rims and technical parts we stock the sprays from KIM TEC; the sealing and connection tapes at the window come from Bosig.
  • Soft cloth, no pan scourers. The agent dissolves the dirt; the mechanical work should remain small. Microfibre or a soft cotton cloth is enough.

Frequently asked questions about Weiss Chemie

Why no scouring agent on the window frame?

Because it leaves fine scratches that scatter the light. The frame then looks dull, and dirt settles in the scratches, which comes out even harder the next time – a cycle that makes the frame greyer with every cleaning. The scratches cannot be cleaned back.

Does the agent help against greyed frames?

Against surface soiling, yes. What looks “greyed” after years outdoors is often a firmly adhering layer of dirt and comes off with a surfactant cleaner and a little contact time. If, however, the surface itself is weathered or scratched, no cleaner helps any more – then reconditioning with suitable special agents or a new coat of paint is the issue.

May the agent touch the seal?

Better not permanently. Rubber seals react sensitively to cleaning agents and lose their suppleness over time. They are wiped with clear water and then treated with a care product intended for the purpose – that keeps them elastic and prevents them freezing to the frame in winter. The care instructions of the window manufacturer are decisive.

How do I remove building dirt after installation?

First remove everything coarse dry and without pressure – mortar and plaster residues contain quartz and act like sandpaper when you run a cloth over them. Only then is it cleaned wet. Dried-on mortar residues are softened instead of rubbed off. And the earlier this is done, the easier it is: fresh building dirt comes off with water, old dirt needs chemistry.
