About ISO-Chemie

ISO-Chemie is a manufacturer from Aalen that develops sealing tapes and insulation materials for window construction. From this range we stock the ISO-BLOCO ONE – a pre-compressed joint sealing tape that handles the three tasks of the window connection in a single component: airtight on the inside, insulating in the middle, driving-rain-proof on the outside.

One tape instead of three operations

The classic connection according to RAL consists of three levels produced one after another: on the inside an airtight membrane, in the joint an insulation, on the outside a driving-rain-proof but vapour-open membrane. A multifunctional tape already brings these three levels with it. It is stuck to the frame during installation, expands in the joint and produces all three functions at once.

The three zones of a multifunctional joint sealing tape Room side Weather side Frame Masonry 1 airtight keeps room air out 2 insulating heat and sound 3 driving-rain-proof and vapour-open All three zones sit in one component and are installed in one operation.
Three levels, one step. According to the product data, ISO-BLOCO ONE seals in three levels at once – airtight inside, insulating in the middle, rain-tight outside – and thus replaces film and sealant. It is tested to DIN 18542 and specified for joint widths of 5 to 30 millimetres. The time saved is not the only advantage: the fewer operations a connection has, the fewer places there are where something can be forgotten.

Pre-compressed means: the tape works for you

A compression tape comes compressed on the roll. After being stuck on it expands and presses against both joint flanks – and it does not stop doing so when the joint later moves. That is exactly the difference from a rigid sealant: the tape stays under pressure and still seals when frame and masonry move with temperature changes.

The tape is under pressure in every state – even when the joint moves. One tape for a range, not for a single dimension. The joint width for which a compression tape is designed is given as a range in the product data – for ISO-BLOCO ONE that is 5 to 30 millimetres, depending on tape width. If a tape is used in a joint that is too wide, it expands completely and loses its contact pressure; in one that is too narrow it cannot be installed cleanly. That is why the joint is measured before purchase, not estimated.

What tradespeople use ISO-Chemie for

  • Sealing window connections in one operation
  • Making the connection airtight inside and driving-rain-proof outside
  • Insulating the connection joint against heat and sound at the same time
  • Accommodating component movement without the joint leaking
  • Carrying out installation according to RAL in conformity with the standard
  • Closing joints from 5 to 30 millimetres

Good to know

  • Based in Aalen. ISO-Chemie GmbH is located at Röntgenstraße 12 in 73431 Aalen.
  • DIN 18542 is the standard for pre-compressed joint sealing tapes for sealing external wall joints. The stress group in it says what driving-rain pressure the tape withstands.
  • Pre-compressed means limited shelf life on the roll. The tape also expands slowly in its packaging; cool storage slows this, warm storage accelerates it. Opened rolls should therefore be used promptly.
  • The connection in individual parts. Anyone who works with separate levels instead of the multifunctional tape will find connection films and film adhesives from Teroson and Bosig.
  • Expansion takes time. After installation the tape does not expand suddenly but over hours – and considerably more slowly in the cold. Anyone who judges the joint immediately after installation does not see the final state.

Frequently asked questions about ISO-Chemie

Does the tape really replace film and sealant?

According to the product data, yes: ISO-BLOCO ONE seals in three levels at once and thus replaces film and sealant. A prerequisite is that joint width and tape type match and that installation follows the manufacturer's specifications. For special cases – very large joints, connections to uneven substrates, corner details – separate details apply, which are described in the technical data sheet.

Which tape width do I need?

That depends on the measured joint width. Every compression tape is designed for a range – with ISO-BLOCO ONE the span is given as 5 to 30 millimetres, divided across several tape widths. Measure at several points along the joint, because it is rarely the same over the whole length. The largest value is decisive.

How is the tape installed?

It is stuck onto the frame before the frame is inserted – not stuffed into the joint. The adhesive side belongs on the frame, the tape is applied butt-jointed and at corners is not pulled around the edge but butted. After insertion it expands and fills the joint. The binding installation instructions are supplied with the tape.

What happens in the cold?

Expansion slows down considerably. At low temperatures it can take hours until the tape fills the joint – that is normal and not a defect. It only becomes critical if the construction schedule does not allow time: if plastering or cladding follows shortly after installation, the final state has not yet been reached. The temperature notes are given in the technical data sheet.
