Description
OTTO Primer 1217 is a silicone plastics primer based on a solvent-based adhesion promoter combination. It improves the adhesion of OTTO sealants and adhesives on many plastics. The 100 ml aluminium bottle is enough for individual joints and minor repairs.

Limits & notes
According to OTTO, improper use can cause stress cracking in pre-stressed acrylic glass and polycarbonate. According to the data sheet the primer contains toluene; OTTO application technology can name toluene-free alternatives. Excess primer forms a film that impairs adhesion. For other OTTO product groups, substrates or coatings, OTTO recommends preliminary tests.

Application & tips
Free the bonding surfaces of release agents, grease, oil, dust, water and old adhesives or sealants; clean non-porous substrates with OTTO Cleaner T and a clean, lint-free cloth, clean porous substrates of loose particles mechanically, for example with a steel brush or grinding disc. Apply the primer thinly and evenly with a clean rag, felt or suitable brush. On smooth substrates work can continue immediately; on textured or absorbent surfaces allow to flash off for at least 15 minutes and at most 3 hours. Solvent-containing, flammable: only with good ventilation, away from ignition sources; wear safety goggles and solvent-resistant gloves, according to the safety data sheet made of butyl rubber with a thickness of more than 0.4 mm. Because of the many influences on site, a trial application is always necessary. The use-by date is on the container, storage stability is 12 months at 23 °C.

Does the primer have to flash off?
Not on smooth, non-absorbent plastics. On textured surfaces at least 15 minutes, at most 3 hours.
Can I use it on acrylic glass?
Caution: with improper use the primer can cause stress cracking in pre-stressed acrylic glass and polycarbonate. A preliminary test is mandatory there.
