About Wakol
Wakol is an adhesive manufacturer from Pirmasens in the Palatinate with a focus on installation materials for floors and parquet. We stock two parquet adhesives from this range that are made for different installation cases: the one-component MS 260, which bonds firm-elastically, and the two-component PU 210, which bonds shear-resistantly to the standard.
Firm-elastic or shear-resistant – two ways that exclude each other
Wood moves. It swells with rising humidity and shrinks when the heating is on. For bonding there are two answers to this. A firm-elastic adhesive joint absorbs this movement and passes on only part of it into the substrate; a shear-resistant bond holds the wood almost rigidly in place and forces the movement into the perimeter joints.
Selection guide: both Wakol adhesives
| Product | Base | Purpose | Special feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wakol MS 260 | MS polymer, 1K | Solid, multi-layer and mosaic parquet, cork | DIN EN 14293 · without mixing · 18 kg container |
| Wakol PU 210 | Polyurethane, 2K | Solid wood, strip and multi-layer parquet | DIN EN ISO 17178 · solvent-free and water-free · over underfloor heating |
Why water-free is an argument with wood
A water-containing adhesive releases moisture to the wood above it as it sets. Solid wood absorbs it, swells on the underside and cups – hardly visible with narrow strips, clearly with wide boards. That is why parquet adhesives for sensitive coverings are built solvent-free and water-free: they cure chemically instead of drying.
What tradespeople use Wakol for
- Bonding solid and multi-layer parquet over the full surface
- Laying mosaic parquet and strip parquet
- Bonding cork and wood-based coverings
- Bonding shear-resistantly over underfloor heating
- Working straight from the container without mixing
- Laying water-sensitive coverings without risk of swelling

Good to know
- Based in Pirmasens. Wakol GmbH is located at Bottenbacher Straße 30 in 66954 Pirmasens and, besides installation materials, also stocks sealing compounds and foam adhesives.
- DIN EN 14293 is the standard for adhesives for bonding parquet to a substrate; DIN EN ISO 17178 describes the testing of the shear strength of such bonds. Both items of information are given in the product data of the respective adhesive.
- Tooth size and consumption belong together. The prescribed spreader tooth size determines how much adhesive goes onto the substrate per square metre. A worn tooth profile applies too little – it is a wearing part, not a permanent tool.
- The residual moisture of the screed also decides whether bonding may take place. It is measured, not estimated; the limit values are given in the technical data sheet of the adhesive.
Frequently asked questions about Wakol
Firm-elastic or shear-resistant – which do I choose?
As a rule the parquet manufacturer specifies this, because it depends on the type of wood, format and build-up of the covering. Roughly speaking: MS 260, as a firm-elastic 1K adhesive, absorbs movement and is the more widely usable of the pair; PU 210 bonds shear-resistantly to the standard and is required where the covering is to be held almost rigidly.
What is the pot life of a 2K adhesive?
The period in which the mixed material remains workable. After that it cures in the bucket, regardless of whether it is on the floor or not. That is why only as much is mixed as can be laid safely in this time. The value is given in the technical data sheet and shortens considerably at higher temperature.
May I bond over underfloor heating?
According to the product data, Wakol PU 210 is specified for this. Besides the adhesive, however, the whole build-up is decisive: the covering must be approved for underfloor heating, the screed must have gone through the heat-up protocol, and the surface temperature has to be limited. That is a matter for the execution planning, not the choice of adhesive alone.
Does the substrate have to be primed?
In most cases yes – an absorbent or sanding screed draws constituents out of the adhesive or does not itself bear load. Whether and with what to prime is stated in the technical data sheet of the adhesive and depends on the substrate. Evenness is just as important: an adhesive bed does not level out unevenness, that is the job of a levelling compound.
