Description
Sikacryl-621 Fire Plus is an intumescent fire protection sealant based on acrylic dispersion for fire-rated joints indoors and for sealing cable and pipe penetrations in walls and ceilings. Depending on the tested joint construction it achieves, according to Sika, up to 240 minutes fire resistance to EN 13501-2, proven by the European Technical Assessments ETA 21/0889 and ETA 23/0964. The carton with 12 cartridges of 300 ml each is aimed at drywall fitters, electrical and sanitary installers as well as construction companies with fire protection requirements.
Benefits at a glance
- Tested fire resistance: up to 240 minutes to EN 13501-2 in the construction described in the declaration of performance.
- Two approvals in one product: ETA 21/0889 for linear joints and ETA 23/0964 for penetration seals.
- Ready for immediate use: one-component, no mixing, skin formation after approx. 15 minutes.
- Sound-insulating effect: closes joints and penetrations acoustically as well.
- Low-emission: EMICODE EC1PLUS, phthalate-free, water-based.
- Non-sag: practically no running, even in vertical joints and on the ceiling.
Areas of application
- Fire protection joints in walls and ceilings made of masonry, concrete and drywall
- Connection joints on components relevant to fire protection in interior fit-out
- Sealing cable and pipe penetrations in wall and ceiling openings
- Restoring fire resistance duration after retrofitting
Limits & notes
The fire resistance duration only applies to the constructions described in the declaration of performance – joint width, joint depth, backfill and wall or ceiling type must be listed there. The sealant alone does not make a joint a fire protection joint. Not suitable for floor joints, sanitary joints, glass, natural stone, joints under water pressure or permanent water exposure, nor for untreated steel. Use on PE, PP, Teflon, polystyrene, bitumen and plasticiser-containing substrates such as EPDM only after a preliminary test. The white shade can change over time without impairing the properties.
Labelling: EUH208 Contains 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one (BIT). May produce an allergic reaction. Safety data sheet available from the manufacturer.
Application & tips
Joint flanks must be sound, clean, dry and free of oil, grease, dust, cement slurry and water-repellent treatments; on many substrates no primer is needed, iron and steel require a corrosion protection coat. Insert the backfill according to the declaration of performance, inject the sealant with the cartridge gun without bubbles so that both flanks are completely wetted, and press it in within the skin-forming time with a smoothing tool and a little water. Air and substrate temperature +5 to +30 °C, substrate at least 3 °C above the dew point. Clean fresh residues and tools with water, cured material only mechanically. Store cool, dry and frost-free at +10 to +30 °C; shelf life unopened 24 months from production.
Frequently asked questions
Is the sealant alone enough for a fire protection joint?
No. The fire resistance only applies to the combination of joint dimension, backfill and component tested in Sika's declaration of performance. Check these details before execution.
Can I use Sikacryl-621 Fire Plus outdoors?
Sika specifies the sealant for joints indoors. It is not intended for weathered joints.
Why a carton of 12 cartridges?
Sika supplies the sealant in cartons of 12 cartridges of 300 ml each; we sell only this packaging unit.
