Description
Ottocoll M500 is a one-component hybrid adhesive based on silane-terminated polymers (STP) for elastic, extremely water-resistant bonds indoors and outdoors. It is free of silicone and isocyanates, carries the EMICODE EC 1 Plus label and has been tested for use near food. The 310 ml cartridge in white for commercially available cartridge guns is aimed at tilers, fitters and DIY enthusiasts.
Benefits at a glance
- For wet areas: intended by the manufacturer for bonding with high water loads.
- Little preparation: adheres to many materials without pre-treatment, even if the substrate is damp.
- Gentle on natural stone: according to the manufacturer leaves no greasing on the stone.
- Elastic bond line: elongation at break approx. 230 %, compensates for movement between the components.
- Can be overcoated: depending on the climate it can be painted over with coating materials after about 1 hour.
Areas of application
- Bonding stone, natural stone and ceramics
- Bonding mirrors to ceramics, glass, plastic, stainless steel, aluminium, wood or concrete
- Bonding painted and enamelled glass
- Fixing window sills, skirting boards, decorative strips and stair treads
- Bonding OTTOFLEX waterproofing membrane
- Vehicle body and vehicle construction, container, metal and shipbuilding
Limits & notes
For UV-exposed bonding and sealing of glass, the manufacturer recommends a silicone adhesive or sealant. M500 is not suitable for copper under UV or temperature exposure or for polypropylene (PP). On concrete the manufacturer's primer table specifies OTTO Primer 1105 or 1215, on natural stone OTTO Primer 1216. The permissible total deformation is 10 %. Check compatibility with adjoining materials and coatings, such as a mirror coating, beforehand.
Labelling: The product is not classified according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008; no signal word applies. EUH208 Contains trimethoxyvinylsilane, 3-(2-aminoethylamino)propyltrimethoxysilane. May produce an allergic reaction. EUH210 Safety data sheet available on request. Safety data sheet available from the manufacturer.
Application & tips
Bonding surfaces must be clean, free of dust and grease and sound. Clean non-porous substrates with OTTO Cleaner T and a lint-free cloth, free porous surfaces of loose particles with a steel brush or grinding disc. Apply the adhesive at +5 to +40 °C with the cartridge gun and join the parts within the skin-forming time of about 20 minutes, avoiding air pockets. When bonding vapour-tight materials over a large area, dampen the adhesive. It cures through at about 2 to 3 mm in 24 hours; moisture and warmth shorten the time. The safety data sheet specifies nitrile protective gloves, safety goggles and good ventilation. Store unopened, dry, at +15 to +25 °C.
Frequently asked questions
How far does one cartridge go?
The manufacturer states about 4 linear metres per 310 ml cartridge when applied with the OTTO flat nozzle.
Does the adhesive hold on a damp substrate?
Yes. According to the technical data sheet it also adheres to damp substrates.
Do I need a primer?
Not on glass and bare aluminium, according to the primer table. For concrete the manufacturer specifies OTTO Primer 1105 or 1215, for natural stone OTTO Primer 1216.
Can I paint over the bond line?
Yes, depending on the climatic conditions after about 1 hour. Whether paint or varnish is compatible with the adhesive must be checked beforehand.
