Description
OTTO Cleaner T is a universal cleaner on an alcohol basis for cleaning and degreasing bonding surfaces before sealing and bonding. It is intended for glass, metals and some plastics such as PVC and polyester and, at OTTO Chemie, is part of the bonding-surface preparation for OTTOSEAL silicones and OTTOCOLL adhesives. The 100 ml aluminium bottle is aimed at processors in window, sanitary and metal construction as well as DIY enthusiasts.

Limits & notes
OTTO Cleaner T is a cleaner, not an adhesion promoter: on absorbent or critical substrates it does not replace a primer. On other plastics, paints and powder coatings a test on a concealed area is necessary beforehand, because alcohol can attack such surfaces. It does not dissolve cured silicone or adhesive residues; a silicone remover is the right way to deal with those.
Hazard statements: Danger. Highly flammable liquid and vapour. Causes serious eye irritation. May cause drowsiness or dizziness. Safety data sheet available from the manufacturer.
Application & tips
Remove old sealant and adhesive residues completely beforehand. Apply the cleaner to a clean, lint-free cloth and wipe the bonding surface with sufficient pressure; change the cloth regularly. Flashing off is not necessary; sealant or adhesive can be applied directly afterwards. Solvent-containing, flammable: only with good ventilation, away from ignition sources; wear safety goggles and solvent-resistant gloves (nitrile). The manufacturer always recommends a trial application. Store containers tightly closed, cool, dry and protected from heat and sunlight.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to wait after cleaning before I apply silicone?
No. According to the data sheet no flash-off time is required; as soon as the surface has been wiped and is dry, it can be sealed.
Does OTTO Cleaner T replace a primer?
No. It removes grease and dirt, but does not improve adhesion on absorbent substrates. Whether a primer is necessary is specified by the data sheet of the sealant or adhesive.
Can I use it to clean painted surfaces?
Only after a test on an inconspicuous area. The cleaner is designed for glass, metal, PVC and polyester; alcohol can attack paints and other plastics.
How long does the cleaner keep?
Unopened 5 years at 23 °C and 50 % relative humidity. Close opened containers tightly, otherwise the alcohol evaporates.
