Description
Sika SikaBond-54 Parquet is a one-component parquet adhesive based on polyurethane for the full-surface bonding of solid and multi-layer parquet indoors. It is classified as an elastic adhesive to ISO 17178 and carries the general building inspectorate approval Z-155.10-234. The ready-to-use 13 kg metal bucket is intended for parquet layers and experienced DIY users.
Benefits at a glance
- Elastic instead of rigid: the adhesive joint absorbs the working of the wood and reduces the shear stress between covering and substrate.
- Quieter floor: the elastic bond dampens impact sound compared with a rigid bond.
- Low emissions: EMICODE EC1PLUS and GISCODE RU 0.5, also solvent- and water-free.
- No mixing: one-component and ready to use, skin-forming time approx. 60 minutes at 23 °C.
- Over underfloor heating: approved by the manufacturer for heated screeds.
Areas of application
- Solid parquet and strip parquet with tongue and groove
- Multi-layer parquet and prefinished parquet to DIN EN 13489
- Mosaic parquet and lamella parquet
- End-grain strips and industrial parquet
- Heated cement screeds indoors
Limits & notes
The adhesive is intended for indoor use and not for weathered or permanently wet surfaces. On heated screed the substrate temperature must not exceed 22 °C, and bonding is not carried out below +15 °C air temperature. The substrate must be ready for laying in accordance with ATV DIN 18356; increased residual screed moisture requires a primer.
Labelling: Not a hazardous substance or mixture according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, therefore no signal word. Additional labelling EUH204 Contains isocyanates. May produce an allergic reaction. EUH208 Contains 4,4'-methylenediphenyldiisocyanate, m-tolylidene diisocyanate, hardener LI (isophorone dialdimine), hardener LH (1,6-hexane dialdimine). May produce an allergic reaction. Safety data sheet available from the manufacturer.
Application & tips
Prepare the substrate firm, level, permanently dry and free of release agents, then apply with the appropriate notched trowel: TKB B3 for mosaic and lamella parquet, TKB B6 for prefinished parquet, TKB B11 for solid and industrial parquet. Lay the parquet within the skin-forming time of about 60 minutes and press down over the full surface; the adhesive cures through at around 4 mm in 24 hours and can be sanded after about 12 hours. Contains isocyanates. Process only with disposable nitrile gloves and safety goggles, and ensure good ventilation; cured adhesive can only be removed mechanically. Commercial users have needed training under REACH Annex XVII No 74 since 24 August 2023. Wipe up fresh splashes immediately, clean tools straight after use. Store unopened for 12 months at +5 to +25 °C.
Frequently asked questions
How many square metres does a 13 kg bucket cover?
Sika states a maximum of 18 m² per bucket. By calculation it is 13 to 18 m² depending on the notch size: more with fine notches (TKB B3), less with coarse ones (TKB B11).
Is a primer necessary?
That depends on the substrate: a cement screed that is ready for laying and permanently dry can be bonded directly; with increased residual moisture it is primed.
May the adhesive be used over underfloor heating?
Yes. The substrate temperature must be between +18 °C and a maximum of 22 °C.
How long do I have to lay it?
About 60 minutes at 23 °C and 50 % relative humidity. Warmer and drier air shortens the time.
