Balcony & Terrace

Balconies and terraces take more punishment than any other part of the house: UV, frost, rain and temperature swings attack the surface, the joints and the timber. With waterproofing, elastic joints and the right wood protection, a balcony slab and terrace boards stay sound and watertight for many years.

How to do it

  1. Seal the connection joints (door threshold, balustrade feet, wall junction) with a weather-resistant sealant.
  2. Repair cracks and surfaces with a suitable balcony waterproofing system.
  3. Clean the timber boards and protect them with terrace oil (for example GORI wood oil) - refresh annually.

Frequently asked

How often does terrace timber need oiling?

Usually once a year, and twice on heavily exposed south-facing sites - the oil revives the colour and protects against greying and cracking.

Which sealant lasts outdoors?

UV- and weather-resistant silicones or hybrid sealants - acrylic is unsuitable for exposed exterior joints.
