Limits & notes
According to the manufacturer not suitable for natural stone such as marble or granite, concrete block stone, acrylic glass (PMMA) and polypropylene (PP) – for natural stone, a natural stone silicone is the right choice. S120 is paint-compatible according to DIN 52452, but cannot itself be painted over; if a paintable joint is needed, a hybrid sealant is the right choice. Avoid contact with materials containing bitumen or releasing plasticisers, such as butyl, EPDM, neoprene, and with insulating and black coatings.
Application & tips
Bonding surfaces must be clean, free of grease, dry and sound. Clean smooth substrates with a cleaner and a lint-free cloth, free porous ones of loose parts mechanically. According to the primer table no primer is needed on glass, bare aluminium and untreated wood; concrete, aerated concrete and plaster need a primer, and plastic profiles and rigid PVC should be tested beforehand. Insert the cartridge into a manual caulking gun and apply at +5 to +40 °C. Before the skin forms after approx. 15 minutes, pull the joint off only once with a smoothing tool dipped in OTTO smoothing agent and remove any water streaks immediately. Assemble or pack windows and doors after 24 hours at the earliest. Can be stored unopened, dry, at +15 to +25 °C for 12 months.
Frequently asked questions
Can I paint over Ottoseal S120?
No. It is paint-compatible according to DIN 52452, but cannot itself be painted over.
Is S120 suitable for laminated safety glass?
Yes, it is compatible with PVB films according to the criteria of ift guideline DI-02/1 and is therefore suitable for sealing laminated safety glass.
How quickly does the joint cure?
The skin forms after approx. 15 minutes; it cures through approx. 2 mm in 24 hours (23 °C, 50 % relative humidity).
Can I use S120 for marble or granite?
No, natural stone is excluded according to the manufacturer because edge-zone discolouration is a risk. A natural stone silicone is intended for that.
