Description
Ottocoll S16 Mirror Adhesive adheres to all commercially available mirror coatings without primer. Also suitable as an adhesive for Plexiglas mirrors. Ottocoll S 16 Mirror Adhesive does not damage the mirror coating!
- Neutral-curing RTV-1 silicone adhesive based on alkoxy
- Adheres to all commercially available mirror coatings without primer
- Does not damage the mirror coating
Areas of application:
- Stress-compensating bonding of mirrors to materials such as ceramics, glass, plastic, stainless steel, aluminium, wood, concrete etc.
- Also suitable as an adhesive for Plexiglas® mirrors.
Special notes:
Before using the adhesive / sealant, the user must ensure that the materials in the contact area (solid, liquid and gaseous) are compatible with the adhesive / sealant and do not damage or alter it (e.g. discolour it). For materials that are subsequently processed in the area of the adhesive / sealant, the user must clarify beforehand that their ingredients or emissions cannot impair or alter the adhesive / sealant (e.g. discolouration). If necessary, the user must consult the respective manufacturer of the materials. Only mirrors whose reflective and protective layer comply with DIN 1238 5.1 and DIN EN 1036 may be bonded. In case of doubt, please be sure to obtain information from the mirror manufacturer. During curing, small amounts of alcohol are gradually released. Ensure good ventilation during application and curing. After curing, the product is completely odourless, physiologically harmless and inert. Avoid contact with materials containing bitumen or releasing plasticisers, e.g. butyl, EPDM, neoprene, insulating and black coatings. Paints, varnishes, plastics and other coating materials must be compatible with the adhesive / sealant.
With Ottocoll S 610 we also offer a 2K silicone adhesive for mirrors.
Pre-treatment:
The bonding surfaces must be cleaned and any contamination, such as release agents, preservatives, grease, oil, dust, water, old adhesives / sealants and other substances that impair adhesion, must be removed. Cleaning non-porous substrates: clean with OTTO Cleaner T (flash-off time approx. 1 minute) and a clean, lint-free cloth. Cleaning porous substrates: clean surfaces of loose particles mechanically, e.g. with a steel brush or a grinding disc. Mineral substrates such as concrete, plaster, masonry, plasterboard, aerated concrete or untreated wood-based materials must be pre-treated with OTTO Primer 1105 without fail. The use of OTTO Primer 1105 on mineral, alkaline substrates serves not only to improve adhesion but also for the absolutely necessary blocking of the alkalinity. Alkalinity that has not been blocked can, in combination with moisture, possibly damage the back of the mirror. On coated chipboard or similar, pre-treatment with OTTO Primer 1216 is generally required. Adhesion on glazed ceramics is given without a primer. Ottocoll S 16 adheres without a primer to the mirror coatings customary up to the current state of the art. When bonding Plexiglas mirrors, very good adhesion without a primer is present on the mirror paint layer. For mirrors with a protective film, carry out preliminary tests. For use on substrates that are not named, we ask that preliminary tests be carried out.
Application notes:
The notes described below apply to both glass and Plexiglas mirrors. When bonding, never apply the mirror adhesive in dots or over the full surface, but in vertical strips. The length of one adhesive strip should not exceed 200 mm. Per m² of mirror surface, at least 3 adhesive strips are to be applied so that, after the mirror has been pressed on, the strip width does not exceed 10 mm and the distance between the adhesive strips is at least 200 mm, so that the air circulation required for curing is possible. For optimum load-bearing capacity a bonding area of at least 10 cm²/kg of mirror weight is required. To avoid trapping the crosslinker cleavage product, a minimum distance of 1.6 mm between mirror and substrate must be maintained. This can be achieved most conveniently by sticking on spacers. The minimum distance prescribed here serves to carry off the crosslinker cleavage product. It does not in any way override the minimum rear-ventilation distances for mirrors required by the Institute of the Glazing Trade in Hadamar. The strength values required for bonding are reached after about 48 hours (23 °C, approx. 50 % RH). Until then, pre-fixing is necessary. This can be done with removable mechanical aids, such as blocks, wedges or one-sided adhesive tapes from the front (mirror side) or with double-sided adhesive tapes from behind (back).
Application:
Application temperature: +5ºC to +35ºC.
Application method: apply with a manual caulking gun, compressed-air gun or cordless gun.
Cleaning: with white spirit before curing, afterwards removable with silicone remover or mechanically.
Smoothing: with smoothing agent and scraper before a skin forms.

All reviews come from buyers. Reviews can only be submitted via the personal, signed link we send to the order's e-mail address after delivery; the link is bound to the order and the purchased item, there is no form without a purchase. We check every review before publication and publish positive and negative reviews alike. Reviews from our former shop baustoffhandel-nrw.de were migrated; there, too, only customers who had bought the item could review it.
