Description
SikaHyflex-250 Facade is an elastic 1K sealant based on polyurethane (Sika i-Cure technology) for facade and connection joints in building construction. It meets DIN 18540-fb and ISO 11600 F 25 LM and is classified to EN 15651-1 for indoor and outdoor use. The 600 ml sausage pack is intended for joint sealing contractors, window fitters and tradespeople who seal longer joint runs economically.
Benefits at a glance
- Compliant with the regulations: tested to DIN 18540-fb – the standard for external wall joints in building construction.
- High movement capability: permissible total deformation 25 %, elastic recovery 80 %.
- Gentle on joint flanks: low modulus (0.30 N/mm² at 23 °C), so also suitable for render, mortar and aerated concrete.
- Pleasant to use: solvent-free, odourless, EMICODE EC1PLUS.
- Neat joint: very easy to tool, cures bubble-free with a tack-free surface.
- Durable: very good ageing and weathering resistance, service temperature -40 °C to +70 °C.
Areas of application
- Expansion and movement joints in concrete and rendered facades
- Connection joints at windows and doors (minimum width 10 mm)
- Joints in natural stone facades made of granite; other natural stones only after a preliminary test
- Parapets and connections of balcony and gallery railings
- Fire-rated joints in combination with Sika Backer Rod Fire
Limits & notes
Not suitable for glass sealing, floor joints and joints under constant water exposure – for floor joints a PU floor joint sealant is the right choice. Do not use on PE, PP, PTFE, polystyrene, bitumen and plasticiser-containing substrates such as EPDM without a preliminary test. Do not paint over elastic joints; the colour may change under environmental influences without affecting the function.
Hazard statements: Warning. H317 May cause an allergic skin reaction. EUH204 Contains isocyanates. May produce an allergic reaction. Safety data sheet available from the manufacturer.
Application & tips
Joint flanks must be sound, dry, clean and free of oil, grease and cement laitance. Pre-treat absorbent substrates such as concrete, render and masonry with Sika Primer-3 N, clean smooth surfaces with Sika Adhesion Cleaner-1. Form the joint with a width to depth ratio of 2:1 and backfill with a closed-cell PE backer rod. Apply the pack bubble-free with a sausage pack gun and tool within the skin-forming time of about 70 minutes. Contains isocyanates. Apply only with disposable nitrile gloves and safety goggles and ensure good ventilation; cured sealant can only be removed mechanically. Clean tools immediately with Sika Remover-208. Store unopened and dry at +5 °C to +30 °C; shelf life 15 months.
Frequently asked questions
How many metres of joint does one pack cover?
At 10 × 8 mm about 7.5 m, at 15 × 8 mm about 5 m and at 20 × 10 mm about 3 m.
Can I paint over SikaHyflex-250 Facade?
No, elastic sealants should not be painted over, because the paint layer does not follow the movement and cracks.
Is this the successor to Sikaflex Hyflex 250?
Yes, Sika now sells the facade sealant under the name SikaHyflex-250 Facade.
How quickly does the sealant cure through?
About 3 mm in 24 hours at 23 °C and 50 % relative humidity; correspondingly slower in cold and dry air.
