Waterproofing Basements

A damp basement almost always has one of three causes: failed external waterproofing, rising damp or condensation. With waterproofing slurry, structural waterproofing and the right perimeter insulation you can get basement walls and floor slabs permanently dry.

How to do it

  1. Establish the cause: the moisture pattern (low on the wall, across the surface, in corners) gives it away.
  2. Expose the substrate, clean it and remove anything loose.
  3. Inside: apply mineral waterproofing slurry in two coats.
  4. Outside: apply structural waterproofing, a protective layer and perimeter insulation.

Frequently asked

Can a basement be waterproofed from the inside?

Yes - with mineral waterproofing slurry as an internal system. Where there is water under pressure, however, external waterproofing is the permanently reliable answer.

What is perimeter insulation?

Compression-resistant, water-resistant insulation for components in contact with the ground - it protects the waterproofing and prevents thermal bridges at the plinth.
