Description
Ottocoll M501 crystal clear, the transparent hybrid adhesive, is free of solvents and isocyanates. Ottocoll M501 MS POLYMER can be used indoors and outdoors because it has very good weather and ageing resistance.
- Adhesive and sealant based on silane-terminated polymers
- Very good primer-free adhesion on numerous substrates, even under water load
- Very good weather, ageing and UV resistance
- Can be used indoors and outdoors
- Fast curing even in high layer thicknesses
- Elastic - for stress-compensating bonding and under dynamic loads
- Very high mechanical strength - hence high notch resistance, tensile strength and tear propagation resistance
Areas of application of Ottocoll M501:
- Stress-compensating bonding and sealing of a wide variety of materials, wood, glass, metals (e.g. aluminium, anodised aluminium, brass, copper), rigid PVC, flexible PVC, brick, tile
- Vehicle body and vehicle construction, railway wagon and container construction, metal and apparatus engineering, air-conditioning and ventilation technology, shipbuilding
- A wide variety of building applications such as staircase construction etc.
- Bonding stone, natural stone and ceramics
Pre-treatment:
The bonding surfaces must be clean, free of dust and grease and sound. The bonding surfaces must be cleaned and any contamination, such as release agents, preservatives, grease, oil, dust, water, old adhesives/sealants and other substances that impair adhesion, must be removed. Cleaning non-porous substrates: clean with OTTO Cleaner T (flash-off time approx. 1 minute) and a clean, lint-free cloth. Cleaning porous substrates: clean surfaces of loose particles mechanically, e.g. with a steel brush or a grinding disc.
Primer:
The requirements for elastic seals and bonds depend on the respective external influences. Extreme temperature fluctuations, expansion and shear forces, repeated contact with water etc. place high demands on an adhesive bond. In such cases, where recommendations are given (e.g. +/OTTO Primer 1216), the use of the primer named is advisable in order to achieve as durable a bond as possible.
Application:
Application temperature: +5ºC to +35ºC.
Application method: apply with a manual caulking gun, compressed-air gun or cordless gun.
Cleaning: with white spirit before curing, afterwards removable with silicone remover or mechanically.
Smoothing: with smoothing agent and scraper before a skin forms.
Special notes:
Before using the adhesive / sealant, the user must ensure that the building materials in the contact area (solid, liquid and gaseous) are compatible with the adhesive / sealant and do not damage or alter it (e.g. discolour it). For building materials that are subsequently processed in the area of the adhesive / sealant, the user must clarify beforehand that their ingredients or emissions cannot impair or alter the adhesive / sealant (e.g. discolouration). If necessary, the user must consult the respective manufacturer of the building materials. For UV-exposed bonding/sealing of glass we recommend using our high-quality silicone adhesives / sealants such as OTTOSEAL S110 / OTTOSEAL S120 (for glazing rebate sealing), OTTOSEAL S10 (among others for bonding), OTTOSEAL S7 (for weather sealing) or OTTOCOLL S81 (for bonded windows). For UV-exposed bonding/sealing of transparent plastics such as acrylic glass we recommend our silicone sealant OTTOSEAL S72. A change in properties (e.g. colour, mechanics) due to external influences (especially with translucent substrates or wide adhesive joints), e.g. UV radiation, cannot be ruled out. The bond line must be designed accordingly. On contact with non-ferrous metals, discolouration of the adhesive (especially with full-surface bonding) cannot be ruled out. Not suitable for sealing/bonding copper under UV/temperature exposure.
