Description
Gori 88 Compact wood paint is an opaque wood paint based on alkyd resin for exterior timber components. The solvent-based paint in shade 8855 polar white dries to a satin finish, has a non-drip formulation and protects dimensionally stable and partially dimensionally stable components such as windows and exterior doors as well as timber façades and soffits. Available in a 0.75 l tin and in 2.5 l and 5 l buckets – for painters, timber builders and experienced DIYers.
Benefits at a glance
- Bright white on dark wood: covers weathered or dark timber and is suitable for opaque renovation of old wood stain coats.
- Clean application: gel-like, non-drip consistency – even on window frames and soffits.
- Weather protection: water-repellent, moisture-regulating, with UV protection and good lightfastness.
- High coverage: approx. 100 ml/m² per coat, i.e. around 10 m² per litre.
- Easy to care for: resistant to cleaning agents and disinfectants, tested to DIN 68861-1 (1B) in conjunction with EN 12720.
Areas of application
- Timber windows and exterior doors (dimensionally stable components)
- Shiplap cladding, timber façades and wooden shingles
- Soffits, half-timbering and gable cladding
- Opaque renovation of sound wood stain and paint coats
Limits & notes
Not for terrace and balcony floors or garden decking tiles – surfaces that are walked on need a wood oil or a floor coating. The paint only provides film protection and no chemical wood preservation: softwoods at risk of blue stain such as spruce, fir or pine sapwood are treated beforehand with a wood preservative primer. Avoid direct contact with alkaline renders. If you are looking for a water-based alternative, choose a water-thinnable weather protection paint.
Hazard statements: No signal word. H412 Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects. EUH066 Repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking. Contains 3-iodo-2-propynyl butylcarbamate. May produce an allergic reaction. Safety data sheet available from the manufacturer.
Application & tips
The substrate must be dry, clean, sound and free of grease and wax; wood moisture content for windows and doors 13 % ±2 %, for other components max. 18 %. Sand old coats to a matt finish, sand weathered wood back to sound timber, scrape out resin spots. Apply undiluted with a brush or roller: initial coating 2–3 coats (3 for windows and doors), renovation on intact old coats 1–2 coats. Do not apply below +5 °C or above 80 % relative humidity. Dust-dry after approx. 3 hours, recoatable after approx. 24 hours (23 °C, 60 % RH). Contains solvents: only apply with good ventilation, away from sources of ignition; wear safety goggles and solvent-resistant nitrile gloves. Clean tools immediately with turpentine. Can be stored unopened in a cool, dry and frost-free place for over 2 years.
Frequently asked questions
Can I paint Gori 88 Compact wood paint over an old wood stain?
Yes, if the old coat is sound: sand it thoroughly to a matt finish and apply 1–2 coats.
How much paint do I need?
Around 100 ml per m² and coat. A 0.75 l tin is therefore enough for about 7.5 m² per coat, a 5 l bucket for about 50 m².
Does bare wood have to be primed?
Woods at risk of blue stain such as spruce, fir or pine sapwood as well as windows and exterior doors first receive a primer with blue stain protection, followed by 2–3 coats of wood paint.
Is the paint suitable for my terrace?
No, according to the manufacturer it is not intended for terrace and balcony floors.
