Description
Gori 88 Compact is a thixotropic medium-build wood stain based on alkyd resin for translucent, weather-resistant coatings on hardwood and softwood outdoors. The drip-resistant gel stain dries to a silk gloss, stays open-pored and protects dimensionally stable as well as limited-stability components against UV radiation and weather. The 5 l bucket is intended for painters, joiners and homeowners with larger surfaces.
Benefits at a glance
- Drip-resistant: The gel structure spreads cleanly and hardly runs on vertical surfaces.
- Long-lasting coating: Gori promises excellent weather and UV protection without flaking and chipping.
- Wood stays breathable: open-pored, moisture-regulating and at the same time water-repellent.
- Economical: approx. 80 ml/m² per coat, one litre is enough for around 13 m².
- Grain stays visible: translucent shades from light oak to ebony, plus lime white, driftwood and two metallic shades.
Areas of application
- Wooden windows and exterior doors (dimensionally stable components)
- Wooden facades, wooden cladding and wooden shingles
- Soffits
- Wooden components outdoors with limited or no dimensional stability (wood moisture max. 18 %)
Limits & notes
Not suitable for terrace and balcony floors, garden parquet or other walkable surfaces – a terrace oil is the right choice there. The colourless shade alone does not offer sufficient UV protection; Gori provides it only for lightening the standard shades or for the interior coat of windows. With tropical woods and oak, wood constituents can delay drying. Softwoods at risk of blue stain as well as windows and doors receive, according to the data sheet, a blue-stain-resistant wood preservative primer beforehand (GORI 28).
Application & tips
Remove resin exudations, dirt, algae and loose old coats, sand heavily weathered wood down to sound wood, clean and sand intact old stains. Stir the stain lightly and apply undiluted with a brush in the direction of the grain: on new wood 2 to 3 coats, on dimensionally stable components 3, when renovating sound old coats 1 to 2. Coat end-grain wood several times. Do not work below +5 °C or above 80 % humidity; dust-dry after approx. 3 hours, can be overpainted after approx. 24 hours. Use only material with the same batch number on one surface. Contains solvent: apply only with good ventilation and away from ignition sources, wear safety goggles and solvent-resistant gloves (nitrile). Rags and cleaning cloths soaked with stain can ignite spontaneously – let them dry spread out or store them in water. Clean tools immediately with white spirit. Store cool, dry and frost-free.
Frequently asked questions
How much area does the 5 l bucket cover?
At approx. 80 ml/m², theoretically around 65 m² per coat. With three coats on new wood that is a good 20 m² of finished coated surface.
Is the stain suitable for the terrace?
No. Gori expressly excludes terrace and balcony floors as well as garden parquet.
Can I use colourless as the only coat?
Not outdoors: colourless alone does not offer sufficient UV protection. Choose a pigmented shade or add colourless only for lightening.
When can I overpaint?
After approx. 24 hours at 23 °C and 60 % relative humidity; later accordingly in cold, damp conditions or with woods rich in constituents.
