Birtel BIWA-SP bitumen filler fibre-reinforced solvent-based 5 kg

Description

BIWA-SP is a fibre-reinforced, solvent-based bitumen filler for repairing and sealing cracks, joints and fillets as well as chimney and wall junctions and penetrations. It is supplied ready to use and is applied cold with a trowel, spatula or float. The 5 kg bucket is cut out for repairs on the roof and the building and is aimed at tradespeople as much as at experienced self-builders.

Benefits at a glance

  • No mixing: supplied ready to use, to be applied straight from the bucket.
  • Fibre-reinforced: according to the label the fibres worked into it are part of the formulation for cracks, joints and fillets.
  • A thick coat in one pass: up to 5 mm dry film thickness per working step.
  • Predictable consumption: approx. 1.3 kg/m² per millimetre of dry film thickness.
  • A stock without hurry: at least 12 months of storage in the unopened original pack.

Areas of application

  • Repairing cracks and joints on bitumen surfaces
  • Fillets and coved fillets at junctions
  • Sealing chimney and wall junctions
  • Sealing penetrations and pipe entries
  • Repairs on the roof and the building outdoors

Limits & notes

BIWA-SP contains solvent and therefore belongs outdoors, not in closed interior rooms. The surface of the substrate and the surroundings must be above +5 °C, and the substrate must be dry and free of oil, grease and loose material - on a damp or loose base the compound will not bond. It is a repair compound and does not replace an area waterproofing of the building; for that, a thick-film bitumen coating or a self-adhesive bitumen sealing membrane is the right choice.

Hazard statements: Danger. H226 Flammable liquid and vapour. H336 May cause drowsiness or dizziness. H373 May cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure. H412 Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects. Safety data sheet available from the manufacturer.

Application & tips

Prepare the substrate dry, sound and free of oil, grease and loose material; surface of the substrate and ambient temperature above +5 °C. BIWA-SP is applied with a trowel, spatula or float, up to 5 mm dry film thickness per working step, thicker build-ups in several steps. For the quantity the manufacturer reckons on approx. 1.3 kg/m² per millimetre of dry film thickness. It contains solvent and is flammable: only with good ventilation, away from sources of ignition; wear safety glasses and solvent-resistant gloves (nitrile). Store the bucket in its original pack and protect it from direct sunlight and heat; that way the material stays workable for at least 12 months.

From what temperature can I work?
The surface of the substrate and the surroundings must be above +5 °C. In colder weather, postpone the work.

Can I use it to waterproof a whole basement?
