Description
The Birtel cover tarpaulin 70 g/m² in the format 1.5 m x 4 m covers 6 m². It is a lightweight woven tarpaulin made of polyethylene tape fabric in silver/black with metal eyelets for covering and tying down outdoors – waterproof, tear-resistant and UV-stabilised. Besides 1.5 m x 4 m, the tarpaulin is available in 19 further sizes from 1.5 m x 4 m to 10 m x 15 m.
Benefits at a glance
- Lightweight: 70 g/m² basis weight – quickly laid out, folded and stowed, considerably lighter than tarpaulins with 140 g/m².
- Waterproof: the plastic tape fabric keeps rain, snow and dirt away from the covered goods.
- Secure tie-down: metal eyelets at a spacing of approx. 100 cm sit in the reinforced hem.
- Sturdy edge: a PE rope worked in all around reinforces the hem and absorbs the tensile force at the eyelets.
- Made for outdoors: UV-stabilised fabric for use outdoors.
Areas of application
- Firewood, straw, hay and stored building material
- Trailers, loads and machinery
- Garden furniture, beds and plants in winter
- Rain and building tarpaulin on building site and scaffolding
- Camping, shelter and ground sheet
Limits & notes
At 70 g/m² this tarpaulin is a lightweight version for temporary covering. For permanent weather protection over several seasons, sharp-edged loads or high wind load, a heavier woven tarpaulin with 140 g/m² is the better choice.
Application & tips
Lay the tarpaulin over the goods and tie it down evenly at as many eyelets as possible with bungee cords, ropes or ground pegs – this way it does not flap in the wind and the eyelets do not tear out. Allow about 50 cm of overhang all round. Rainwater must be able to run off: avoid hollows in which water collects. Let it dry before folding and store dry.
Frequently asked questions
Which size do I need?
Footprint of the goods plus about 50 cm overhang per side for tying down. For a woodpile of 1 m x 3 m, for example, the size 2 m x 4 m is enough.
How far apart are the eyelets?
The metal eyelets sit at a spacing of approx. 100 cm in the reinforced hem.
Is the tarpaulin waterproof?
Yes, the tape fabric is waterproof. So that nothing drips through, tie it down so that water can run off and does not stand on the tarpaulin.
Can the tarpaulin stay outdoors permanently?
It is UV-stabilised, but as a 70 g/m² tarpaulin it is intended for temporary use. For year-round covers we recommend a woven tarpaulin with 140 g/m².
