Description
The Schuller Timber L is a flat brush with synthetic bristles for stains and wood preservation. According to the manufacturer, the bristle blend is specially matched to thin-bodied materials; the series is labelled for stains, varnishes and wall paints. The bristle body sits fully bonded in a brass ferrule, the handle is made of plastic. This version is 20 mm wide, the bristle is 42 mm long and 14 mm thick.
Benefits at a glance
- Matched to thin-bodied materials: The bristle mix of the Timber series is designed for stains and wood preservatives, not for viscous compounds.
- Fully bonded bristle: The bristle body is bonded throughout, so no bristles are left behind in the coating when painting.
- Brass ferrule: Brass does not corrode, even if the brush stays damp after washing out.
- Plastic handle: Does not swell with water-based stains and can be washed off smooth.
- Narrow width: 20 mm reaches glazing bars, profiles and edges for which a wide brush is too coarse.
Areas of application
- Wood stains and wood preservatives on narrow profiles and glazing bars
- Windows, doors and frames made of wood
- Varnishes on wood and metal
- Wall paints at edges, corners and connections
- Touch-ups and small surfaces for which a roller is not worthwhile
Limits & notes
The bristle blend is matched to thin-bodied materials. For thick emulsion paint on a large surface, a paint roller is the quicker choice, for textured façade coatings a brush with a coarser bristle. At 20 mm width the coverage rate is low – for fence slats and door leaves 50 to 80 mm is the more suitable choice. A single brush is supplied.
Application & tips
Before first use, brush out loose bristles by hand. Dip the brush at most half the bristle length and wipe off excess material on the edge of the container. Work in the direction of the wood grain and spread wet-on-wet so that no overlaps remain. Wash out water-based stains and varnishes with warm water straight after work, solvent-based products with the thinner specified by the material manufacturer. Then stroke the brush into shape and let it dry hanging or lying, not standing on the bristles.
Frequently asked questions
Do I get a single brush or a multipack?
You receive a single brush. The manufacturer's information of 12 pieces is the shipping unit for the trade, not the scope of delivery in the shop.
Is the Timber L also suitable for wall paint?
Yes, Schuller marks the series for wall paints, varnishes and stains. However the bristle mix is matched to thin-bodied materials, on a large wall surface a roller works faster.
How does the Timber L differ from the Timber M?
Both have brass ferrule and plastic handle. At the same width the Timber L is bound thicker and has the shorter bristle, at 20 mm for example thickness 14 mm and bristle length 42 mm compared with 12 mm and 46 mm for the Timber M.
Which width do I choose for a wooden fence?
For slats up to about 10 cm, 50 to 70 mm are usual, for narrow profiles, edges and glazing bars 20 to 40 mm.
