Description
Ottoseal S18 Swimming Pool Silicone is extremely resistant to permanent wet exposure. Ottoseal S18 Swimming Pool Silicone is strongly fungicidally treated against mould attack in wet areas. Ottoseal S18 Swimming Pool Silicone is resistant to chlorine and very resistant to weathering and ageing.

Ottoseal S 18 is not suitable for drinking water tanks. For these we recommend Ottoseal S27

Areas of application:
Sealing and jointing in the underwater area of swimming pools and baths etc.
Pre-treatment:
The bonding surfaces must be cleaned and any contamination, such as release agents, preservatives, grease, oil, dust, water, old adhesives / sealants and other substances that impair adhesion, must be removed. Cleaning non-porous substrates: clean with OTTO Cleaner T (flash-off time approx. 1 minute) and a clean, lint-free cloth. Cleaning porous substrates: clean surfaces of loose particles mechanically, e.g. with a steel brush or a grinding disc. The bonding surfaces must be clean, free of grease, dry and sound.
Application:
During curing, small amounts of a neutral cleavage product are gradually released. In its final state OTTOSEAL S18 is completely odourless and inert. OTTOSEAL S18 is strongly fungicidally treated and resistant to salt water and chlorine in the usual concentrations in swimming pools. To minimise the risk of mould forming on the swimming pool silicone OTTOSEAL S18, the following notes must be observed during pool operation: Disinfecting the pool water with chlorine is indispensable. Alternative methods can be used in addition
. Sufficient chlorine disinfection must however be present without fail in order to effectively prevent mould attack. Alternative methods such as UV irradiation or ozonisation have no disinfecting residual effect. This is however essential to prevent mould formation. We recommend cleaning the cured sealant with clear water before filling the pool, to remove smoothing agent residues from the surface. Smoothing agent residues can promote the settlement of microorganisms and cause mould attack.
The following water conditions apply:
Swimming pools 0.3 - 0.6 mg/litre free chlorine
Hot tubs 0.7 - 1.0 mg/litre free chlorine
It is currently state of the art that a concentration of free chlorine up to 1.2 mg/litre is permitted.
The pH value of the bathing water is optimally set at a value of 7.0.
Deviations upwards and downwards between 6.5 and 7.6 are permitted for fresh water. The following should however be noted: if an excessively strong irritating smell of chlorine is noticeable, the cause may possibly lie in an incorrect
pH value of the pool water. Please check this and adjust it to the optimum value.
Regular water circulation is indispensable. It must always be in operation and must not be interrupted even temporarily. Interruptions can cause very different chlorine concentrations in places, and the minimum concentration of 0.3 mg/litre can locally be undershot. Such undershooting leads to the germination of the spores that are present everywhere and to mould formation. With correct
water circulation the pool water should run continuously over the overflow edge at the pool rim. When using cleaning agents, care must be taken not to use acidic cleaning agents alone, but to neutralise by subsequently cleaning with alkaline cleaning agents. The risk of mould attack is increased by the use of such agents. When refurbishing affected silicone joints, the sealant must be removed completely and the substrate disinfected with Anti-Mould Spray. Otherwise the fungal spores that have penetrated the sealant grow fairly quickly through the renewed sealant to the surface. The curing time lengthens as the layer thickness of the silicone increases. One-component silicones are not suitable for full-surface bonding unless the special structural conditions for it are met.
Storage:
12 months from the date of production in unopened packaging, stored cool (+5ºC and +25ºC) and dry. Close opened containers tightly and use up quickly.
