Description
OTTO Primer 1216 is a natural stone and metal primer based on a solvent-based adhesion promoter combination. It improves the adhesion of OTTO sealants on metals such as stainless steel, anodised aluminium, copper, galvanised steel and chromium as well as the adhesion of the natural stone silicones S 70, S 80, S 117 and S 140 on marble and other natural stones. The 250 ml aluminium bottle is intended for several joints or one building project.
Benefits at a glance
- Metal and natural stone: one primer for bare and coated metals such as enamel, as well as for marble, artificial stone and concrete block stone.
- No waiting time on smooth surfaces: on smooth, non-absorbent surfaces no flash-off time is necessary.
- Very economical: consumption approx. 30 to 50 g/m², because the primer is applied only thinly.
- Toluene-free: formulated without toluene according to the technical data sheet.
- System-tested: Compatibility with OTTO sealants and adhesives tested and approved by OTTO application technology.
Areas of application
- Stainless steel, anodised aluminium, copper, galvanised steel and chrome
- Enamel and iron treated with rust protection
- Marble, other natural stones, artificial stone and concrete block stone with S 70, S 80, S 117 or S 140
- Some plastics such as PVC as well as solvent-based wood stains
Limits & notes
The primer is not applied with a brush and only thinly: excess primer forms a film that impairs adhesion. On natural stone, do not wet the surface next to the joint flanks, otherwise stains may occur. Do not apply the primer beyond the joint edges and bonding surfaces, otherwise soiling or visual changes are possible.
Hazard statements: Danger. H225 Highly flammable liquid and vapour. H315 Causes skin irritation. H318 Causes serious eye damage. H336 May cause drowsiness or dizziness. H304 May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways. H411 Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects. Safety data sheet available from the manufacturer.
Application & tips
Free the bonding surfaces of release agents, grease, oil, dust, water and old adhesives or sealants; clean non-porous substrates with OTTO Cleaner T and a clean, lint-free cloth, clean porous substrates of loose particles mechanically, for example with a steel brush or grinding disc. Apply the primer thinly and evenly with a clean rag, felt or suitable paper towel. On smooth substrates work can continue immediately; on textured or absorbent surfaces allow to flash off for at least 15 minutes. Solvent-containing, flammable: only with good ventilation, away from ignition sources; wear safety goggles and solvent-resistant gloves, according to the safety data sheet made of butyl rubber with a thickness of more than 0.4 mm. Because of the many influences on site, a trial application is always necessary. The use-by date is on the container, storage stability is 12 months at 23 °C.
