Description
Ottoseal S113 is a silicone-based sealant with neutral oxime cross-linking for elastic joints on windows, façades and metal structures which, unlike ordinary silicone, can be painted over. It meets EN 15651-1 and -2 (F EXT-INT CC 25 LM, G CC 25 LM) as well as DIN 18545 stress group E for glazing rebate sealing. The 310 ml cartridge in pure white (RAL 9010) is aimed at window fitters, painters and tradespeople who want to paint a joint in the shade of the component.
Benefits at a glance
- Paintable: paint-compatible to DIN 52452 – the joint can be painted in the shade of the frame or façade.
- Gentle on metal: neutral-curing and MEKO-free, therefore not corrosive on unprotected metals.
- For movement joints: 25 % permissible total deformation and approx. 700 % elongation at break.
- Temperature-resistant: permanently elastic from −40 °C to +150 °C.
- Mould-inhibiting: fitted with a fungicide, suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
Areas of application
- Sealing the glazing rebate on wooden windows
- Connection joints at windows and doors made of wood, metal and plastic
- Movement and connection joints on precast concrete and aerated concrete elements
- Joints on façades, metal building structures, terraces and balconies
Limits & notes
Compatibility with a specific paint cannot be guaranteed across the board: always check adhesion and compatibility of the paint with a preliminary test. Do not use for full-surface bonding or in contact with materials containing bitumen or releasing plasticisers such as butyl, EPDM or neoprene. For joints that are to be painted over with common emulsion paints without a preliminary test, a paintable hybrid sealant is the simpler choice.
Hazard statements: Warning. H319 Causes serious eye irritation. EUH208 Contains 3-(triethoxysilyl)-propylamine, 2-octyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one. May produce an allergic reaction. Safety data sheet from the manufacturer.
Application & tips
Joint flanks must be clean, dry and load-bearing. Apply the sealant at +5 °C to +35 °C with a hand, compressed-air or cordless gun and smooth it with smoothing agent and jointing spatula before the skin forms (approx. 10–25 minutes). A small amount of an oxime compound is released during curing – ventilate well during application and curing. Through-curing is approx. 2–3 mm per day; thick layers take correspondingly longer. Install or pack windows and doors after 24 hours at the earliest. Remove fresh material with white spirit substitute, cured material only mechanically or with silicone remover. Store unopened and dry at 15–25 °C, shelf life 12 months.
Frequently asked questions
Can I really paint over Ottoseal S113?
Yes, the silicone is paint-compatible to DIN 52452. Because paints react differently, the manufacturer recommends a preliminary test before painting.
When can I paint the joint?
Only after sufficient through-curing: S113 cures through approx. 2–3 mm per 24 hours at 23 °C and 50 % humidity.
Is S113 suitable for metal windows?
Yes, as a neutral-curing, MEKO-free silicone it is not corrosive and, according to the manufacturer, is used for windows and doors made of wood, metal and plastic.
